John Monash Science School

The physical environment is very different from traditional learning environments. There are virtually no walls between learning spaces, with students able to learn in ways that best suit their own needs.

The challenge was to create a dynamic on-campus science community with the flexibility to accommodate the specific study needs of students through different disciplines both individually and collectively. The result was a three level building incorporating the flexible learning environments. Key design elements include the central atrium, providing daylighting through the floors, and the creation of four learning neighbourhoods flanking the high-tech practical studios.
